KMC Hospital Attavar Trains Armed Forces Doctors in Cutting-Edge HDR Brachytherapy: A Milestone in Cancer Care Collaboration

In a landmark initiative aimed at enhancing cancer care capabilities within the Armed Forces Medical Services, KMC Hospital, Attavar is hosting a high-level HDR (High-Dose-Rate) Brachytherapy Training Program for military medical delegates from July 28 to August 1, 2025.

Mangaluru, August 1, 2025: In a landmark initiative aimed at enhancing cancer care capabilities within the Armed Forces Medical Services, KMC Hospital, Attavar is hosting a high-level HDR (High-Dose-Rate) Brachytherapy Training Program for military medical delegates from July 28 to August 1, 2025.

Participants include senior medical officers from prestigious Armed Forces institutions such as Command Hospital (Bengaluru), INHS Asvini (Mumbai), Command Hospital (Lucknow), and Command Hospital (Kolkata).

The program is being conducted under an academic collaboration formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangalore, and BEBIG Medical Solutions, Germany — a global frontrunner in brachytherapy technology and training.

Recognized as a regional referral centre for advanced cancer treatment, KMC Hospital Attavar’s Oncology Centre regularly performs complex brachytherapy procedures, supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure and a highly skilled multidisciplinary team. It remains a leader in precision radiotherapy across coastal Karnataka.

The intensive training program offers hands-on sessions, treatment planning workshops, quality assurance modules, and in-depth exposure to global best practices in brachytherapy. Sessions are being facilitated by faculty from the Department of Radiation Oncology, with a strong emphasis on both clinical precision and technological expertise.

This collaborative initiative marks a significant step forward in cross-institutional knowledge exchange, reflecting the shared commitment of KMC Mangalore and the Armed Forces Medical Services to elevate cancer treatment standards across the country.

Such efforts not only bolster national cancer care infrastructure but also reaffirm the strategic importance of partnerships between academic institutions and defense healthcare systems in tackling complex medical challenges.
