Mangaluru, Sept. 14:Starting a financial institution is not a major challenge, but retaining the trust of the people in a competitive environment and working with self-imposed targets are crucial for its success, said entrepreneur Joel Noronha, promoter of DK Group of Companies.
He was speaking after inaugurating the new office of the Konkan Catholic Credit Co-operative Society at Kadri Mallikatta in Mangaluru.
Noronha said several institutions, including Global Trust Bank and Sahara, had collapsed, causing losses to depositors. However, there have been no such major instances of financial institutions deceiving people and collapsing in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. This has contributed to a high level of public trust in financial institutions in the region, he said.

He noted that the younger Gen Z generation is increasingly taking the lead and carefully evaluates every decision. Even when investing in a financial institution, they seek transparency and examine aspects such as the balance sheet and financial performance.
“Therefore, technology has become essential in the banking and financial sector, and institutions need to adopt modern systems,” he said.
Noronha appreciated the Konkan Catholic Credit Co-operative Society for adopting modern technology from the beginning, including NEFT fund transfers, ATM facilities and other digital services. He expressed hope that the society would earn the trust of the public and grow into a major financial institution.
CODP Director Rev. Fr. Vincent D’Souza and Mangaluru Diocese priest Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Nazareth conveyed their best wishes to the new institution.
MCC Bank Chairman Anil Lobo, Dakshina Kannada Journalists’ Association President Pushparaj B.N., builder John Suresh, former Kadri corporator Manohar Shetty, and Tulu Nadu Rakshana Vedike leader Yogish Shetty Jeppu were among those present.
Joseph Crasta, founder of Snehalaya Charitable Trust, was felicitated on the occasion.
Sun Medix Director Deepak D’Souza welcomed the gathering, while Konkan Catholic Credit Co-operative Society Vice-President Sukshma Crasta proposed the vote of thanks.
